Layla Jones

Junior Business Analyst

Why did you apply to work at Bath Building Society?

I had finished Sixth Form and knew I wanted to continue my education, but wasn’t sure if University was for me. After looking into various apprenticeships in different industries, I found one that suited me at Bath Building Society.

How has your career developed since you’ve worked at the Society?

I joined as an Apprentice working as a Customer Service Officer in the Branches. After doing this for a year, I spent the remainder of my apprenticeship in the Business Change team. After the completion of my apprenticeship, I was kept on in the Business Change team as a Junior Project Support Officer. Since then, I have been given the opportunity to develop my knowledge and skills and am now a Junior Business Analyst working to become a certified Business Analyst.

What does a good day look like in your role?

A good day in my role is when I can see progress being made on project tasks I’m responsible for. So, collaboration with colleagues and members of my team, as well as having productive conversations with project stakeholders with decisions made and clear actions established.

What’s the best thing about working for Bath Building Society?

The best thing about working for the Society is the opportunity for growth and development. Personal development is encouraged and supported which allows colleagues to grow in their roles and pursue their ambitions.

How would you describe the culture?

I would describe the culture here as inclusive and personal. As a smaller organisation, the culture feels a lot more intimate with strong relationships between colleagues.

What does your role involve?

My role as a Junior Business Analyst is to support the delivery of projects which will enable sustainable growth for the Society’s long-term future. My day-to-day tasks involve producing project documentation, contributing to project meetings, and facilitating communication with relevant stakeholders, and within the Business Change team.

What’s been your biggest achievement/proudest moment so far?

My biggest achievement so far has been my heavy involvement in our Online Banking Platforms. The Society launched its very first Mobile Banking App which now has thousands of users! I am proud to have played a part in making that possible.

What’s not in the job description, but something you’d tell a friend if they were thinking about applying for a job at Bath Building Society?

I would tell a friend that the Society is a great place for opportunities and career progression. I have received continuous support from my managers on my learning and development which has allowed me to progress in my role. In fact, one of my friends has recently joined our Savings team!
