Charity of the Year – Mentoring Plus
As the Bath Building Society Charity of the Year, Mentoring Plus have benefited from colleague volunteering days to spruce up the Riverside Youth Hub, fundraising at many of the local community events we support including the annual Rotary Carol Concert as well as proceeds from staff fundraising events. We also pledge to donate £1 for every vote received at the AGM 2024.
Ruth Brown, Community & Relationships Lead at Mentoring Plus, said: “When Bath Building Society chose us as their Charity of the Year, we had no idea it would lead to a freshly painted main hall, beautiful blooms in our garden and a spruced-up basketball court. And for Christmas the fantastic Bath Building Society team has worked their magic once again! They’ve transformed the summer house at Riverside Youth Hub into a magical garden grotto, just in time for our first-ever Christmas Fair.
“This support means so much to us. Riverside isn’t just a youth hub—it’s a safe space for the young people we support through our mentoring programme, youth and art clubs. It also generates vital charitable income for us by hosting events like our Christmas Fair and generating income as a hireable venue.”

Mentoring Plus supports young people aged 7-25 across Bath and the surrounding areas, who are facing tough challenges in their lives. The mentoring programme is designed to help understand and overcome underlying difficulties, improve key relationships, engage with education and maximise individual potential, supporting them to feel empowered and inspiring them to thrive.
Richard Ingle, CEO of Bath Building Society, said: “Each year we included our Members and colleagues in the voting process and we are delighted with the results. Mental health is a very important topic and by supporting the work of Mentoring Plus in the local community we hope to raise awareness of the children’s mentoring services they work tirelessly to provide, giving every child the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
